Pomegranates are used in the Bible as a symbol of love, partly, I'm sure, because of their sweet, delicious flavor.
Let us rise early and go to the vineyards; Let us see whether the vine has budded And its blossoms have opened, And whether the pomegranates have bloomed. There I will give you my love. (Song of Solomon 7:12)
In the following instruction....
.....I have heard it said that the bells represent the manifestations of the Spirit and the pomegranates the fruit of the Spirit, particularly love - if the priest did not have the "pomegranates" he would be loudly clanging (1 Corinthians 13:2), wouldn't he?You shall make on its hem pomegranates of blue and purple and scarlet material, all around on its hem, and bells of gold between them all around: a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, all around on the hem of the robe. (from Exodus 33)
Another interesting thing could be the root word for pomegranate in the Hebrew - it means to be exalted or lifted up.
